Teaching Israel to Diaspora students

Today the program was filled with a variety of lectures and roundtable group discussions.  The lectures included:

  • Dvir, Kahana, Director –General, Ministry of Diaspora Affairs
  • Gila Ben-Har, Director-General, Center for Educational Technology
  • Simon Caplan, Director of Education, The Pincus Fund For Jewish Education

The keynote speaker was Rabbi Dr. Daniel Gordis. His topic was teaching Israel to Diaspora students. What should be taught, how and why.

In French and Spanish, there was a presentation about six unique Jewish schools in French and Spanish speaking countries.  Each one had a special story.

There was a lecture about the Global School Twinning Network presented by the Jewish Agency (Sachnut).

The last lecture was about different Israeli Government Initiatives.

In between lectures, there were two scheduled round table group discussions that ran significantly overtime.  Altogether, there were nine groups with each group led by a staff group leader.

There were two coffee breaks and lunch.  It was during these times that I had some additional sound bite meetings about SOS International.

Very soon we will be leaving for a tour of the Migdal David. With another very late return tonight, I felt it best to send this update now.

Very early tomorrow morning I will be in a group that spends a very full day in the Negev. The trip includes visiting the MindCent Ed Tech Innovation Center, Ben Gurion University and more TBD.

Stay tuned, Alan
