Here I stand alone in a World War One museum with an unfamiliar language on the walls. The floor cracks beneath me as I walk through the hall of mirrors recreation. While walking through this room I not only thought about how the Treaty of Versailles broke apart Europe but also led to the destruction and decimation of Jewish communities during World War Two. The Treaty of Versailles is why I am here in Hungary today, and while broken mirrors cannot be rebuilt, the pieces can be used to create an even more beautiful mosaic. Already over the past week, I have seen the beginnings of this mosaic’s creation. While the Hungarian Jewish community is not the largest or most religious, there needs to be a place to start, a place to plant the seeds for a thriving Jewish garden across the world. This week has been full of fun activities and meaningful conversations to help strengthen the Hungarian Jewish community and connect the Scheiber Sandor kids to us so we can help them discover their Judaism. ~ Ethan T
