Lifetime connections

As I reminisce on the week in Budapest, Hungary tears fill my eyes, wishing to go back. I wish that week, filled with incredible journeys and close friendships, would never end. I learned to step out of my comfort zone, be the real me, and fulfill my beliefs and passions.

Weeks prior to the trip I set a goal for myself, make a strong connection with the students at the Sandor Scheiber Gymnasium School through my Judaism. After returning home, I can undoubtedly say that that goal has been accomplished. Whether it was through davening, touring the cities, during free time, or even in a museum, this journey deeply impacted me and I believe it impacted them as well.

I am so beyond grateful to be a part of the trip. This organization, which connects Jewish cities, is not simply an enjoyable trip to take; however, it was designed to unite Jewish communities that are miles away. Judaism is very unique in that strangers simply connect because they share a Jewish identity. When we first arrived Monday night we meet a few students at a JCC. Instantly, I could see friendships being formed that would be carried on for the rest of their life.

I hope that this connection, between Beth Tfiloh and Sandor Scheiber Gimnazium School, will last forever. I hope that many others can endure the same meaningful, impactful, and amazing experience I had. I shared the saddest moments, staring at the Shoe Memorial and remembering those lives lost in the Holocaust, and the happiest, the bonfire during the Shabbaton where everyone swayed together, arms linked, singing our heart outs, with these students. Although we are thousands of miles away, I know that the connection I made with the Students at SSG will last a lifetime. ~ Naomi
