More learning to be done

When we woke up, Judy’s goodbye letter and breakfast waited for us. Elaine, who is another incredibly nice person came for us and took us to Temple Emmanuel Early Childhood Center. Our new friends from yesterday evening waited for us here. Gary and Melissa talked about how the school works, how they help the teachers and how they keep in touch with the parents. We visited the groups and the garden and talked with the teachers and the children. In every group, we saw different kinds of research. We were part of a special birthday party, too.

Impressions were very similar.
Openness, smiling faces, self-conscious, relaxing and balanced children and teachers. Talkative walls, large spaces, natural materials and pastel colors. Patience and safety everywhere.

Lunch, coffee and we went to another Reggio inspired center, called Shaare Tefila. The welcoming of their leaders was amazing. They are open, everyone can share their opinion. They live in a democracy, they are talking, voting and planning together. They organize many teachers’ meetings, where the teachers do not criticize each other but think critically. The environment was very similar to the others.

After the visit, Alan and Glynis took us to Union Station. Dinner and a twilight tour ended the day.

Our new host Renee is a wonderful lady.
