I was so excited about this trip. The time went by so slow from April to October. Usually, nobody wants the summer break to end but this year I was waiting for the school to start because it meant my trip to Baltimore was going to happen soon.
Before the BT kids visited us my main reason to apply for this program was to travel and see the world, but after I met the American students I wanted to go so I can see them again and have fun with them.
I had very high expectations about the trip and this experience met almost all of them. Nothing can be perfect though this trip almost was. I enjoyed the sightseeing in Washington D.C so much. The bowling and the mini golf were also amazing though I am really bad at both of them. The company made it fun. My most favorite part without question was the Shabbaton. I am still amazed by it. The Shabbaton has such a unique atmosphere. During those 24 hours, I felt like I was part of a big family and nothing bad could happen. Skyzone is one of my best-loved places from now on. I hope one day I can go back there again with my friends. The challah bake was also fun though cleaning up is not my cup of tea, but it was good to help. I really liked that we stayed with host families. My host family was very nice and it was so good to see a little bit of the American lifestyle.
I think it’s great and important that we saw how their school works and what their school life is like. I enjoyed all the classes we visited and I was so proud at myself when I understood what was happening in the class.
I like that we had a chance to talk about our culture. It was a bit scary to stand in front of a big group of people but I did my best. I think we told the same thing at least 15 times, so at the end it went pretty well.
In conclusion, this trip was one of the best in my life and I just wish I could be part of this project just a little bit longer. I can’t wait until the BT kids come to Hungary again. I hope I can be at the Shabbaton. Even if I can’t go to America again, because others deserve to be part of this amazing experience as well, I hope at least I can participate in the part when they visit us. I am so grateful to SOS and I think what they do is just so unbelievably amazing that can’t be described with words. I can’t thank enough that I can be part of all of this. ~ Sandi
