The day started early with a nice London-like weather. As opposed to yesterday we had breakfast in the local Dunkin’ donuts. I grabbed a vanilla coffee, which was too sweet for my European taste buds. The others got sprinkles donuts and ice-coffees.
After our breakfast, we had a really interesting discussion/presentation about antisemitism and October 7th with Dr. Neil Rubin, Jewish History Department Chairman. We started with the light topic of media and its influence on us as jews and humans. After that our topic changed and stayed on the October 7th atrocities. One of the most interesting statements was that paranoia is coded in the Jewish DNA. It was really thought provoking in my opinion, if we had more time I could have listened to him for hours.
At 11:00 o’clock we arrived at the University of Maryland. We heard about the programs and services that Hillel does. I think that these types of organizations are what keeping Jewish life alive in the US and Hungary. They give great opportunities for different types of Jews to get to know each other and build their bridges with each other and everybody else. Next up we had a delicious kosher lunch at their cafeteria. Some BT alumni joined us for lunch and the tour of the campus. The menu was tacos and burgers. After that we had a tour of campus, and spent an hour at the student admission building. I even played the piano there.
At 6pm we went to a baseball game. We really enjoyed it even though we lost. Lots of us were freezing. However, I loved the game and it reminded me how much I love baseball. I tried funnel cake with my host (Zach), it was overly sweet and I couldn’t finish it. It tasted like a mix between a donut and a waffle. Nevertheless, it was an interesting experience. It was raining all day and it was really cold so we headed back to the bus in a hurry.
After the game we went home we had pasta and 10 different kinds of honey.
We even had a FRIED Oreo.
